HASTELLOY X is a Nickel-Chromium-Iron-Molybdenum alloy developed in the 1950s. The alloy found immediate application in the JT-3 (gas turbine) engine, which powered the first Boeing 707.

Aerospace Materials

HAYNES 188 is a Cobalt-Nickel-Chromium-Tungsten superalloy. It was developed in the 1960s specifically for use in critical, high-temperature sheet applications.

MONEL 400 is a Nickel-Copper alloy developed during the first decade of the 20th century, making it one of the first Nickel-based corrosion-resistant alloys manufactured. It found widespread use in everything from kitchenware to roofing to experimental rocket airplanes.


Monel 400

MONEL K500 is an age-hardenable Nickel-Copper alloy originally developed during the 1920’s, making it the first age-hardenable Nickel alloy ever manufactured. Similar in composition to Monel 400, it is characterized by small additions of Aluminum and Titanium which are what allow for the hardening of the alloy. In this hardened state K500 demonstrates increases in mechanical properties 2 to 3 times that of Monel 400, while maintaining almost the exact same corrosion resistance.

INCOLOY A286, often referred to as A286 STAINLESS STEEL, is an Iron-Nickel-Chromium alloy. Through solution-annealing and precipitation-hardening A286 obtains increased mechanical properties, making it a good candidate for aerospace applications.

6AL-4V TITANIUM (also known as Grade 5 Titanium) is an alpha-beta Titanium alloy. It was first developed in the 1950’s for application in the aerospace industry.

316-316L STAINLESS is the second most common Austenitic Stainless Steel after 304. It is characterized (as are all Stainless Steels) by the addition of Chromium which increases its corrosion resistance. 316L grade is the low carbon version of 316 Stainless Steel and is preferred for welding applications as it is less prone to weld decay.

INCONEL 625 is a Nickel-based superalloy. It was developed during the 1960s for use in high-pressure steam lines in power plants.

INCONEL 718 is a precipitation-hardened Nickel-Chromium alloy that was developed in the 1960s. One of the first applications of the alloy was in the J-58 engine of the SR-71 Blackbird. This marked the beginning of its aerospace applications.

ALUMINUM 7050 belongs to the 7000 series of Aluminum alloys. This series is heat-treatable and is characterized by the addition of Zinc as the primary alloying element. Alloy 7050 was developed in the 1970s, through a combination of government and private enterprise, and is considered a “premier choice” when it comes to aerospace applications using Aluminum.

ALUMINUM 6061-T6 belongs to the 6000 series of Aluminum alloys. This series is heat-treatable and is characterized by additions of Magnesium and Silicon as its primary alloying elements. This was one of the earlier Aluminum alloys developed, having been created in 1935 and was originally known as Alloy 61S.
